Where is Magnetic Island?

Magnetic Island is just off the coast from Townsville, which is located in North Queensland.  Townsville, a modern tropical city, is the main hub of commerce, government administration and communications for the region, so whether you are travelling from overseas or from within Australia, transport options are many and varied.

All ferry services to Magnetic Island depart from Townsville.

How do I get to Townsville?

Jetstar, Virgin Blue and Qantas all service Townsville on a daily basis from most capital cities. Direct flights are available in many cases. Townsville is also serviced by Rail and Coach.

How do I get to Magnetic Island from Townsville airport?

You will need to get to the Ferry Terminal. There are two methods of transfer from Townsville Airport to the Breakwater Ferry Terminal:

  • Taxi: phone – 131008 and takes approx 15 minutes.
  • Airport Shuttle: Townsville Airport operates a shuttle service. The desk is located inside the arrivals terminal for the purchase of tickets. http://shuttletsv.com.au/

How much is the passenger ferry and how frequently does it leave?

SeaLink & Magnetic Island Ferries operate the passenger ferry services with walk on service.

What transport is available on Magnetic Island?

Can I bring my car to Magnetic Island?

The Magnetic Island Car Ferry departs regularly from the Townsville ferry terminal. Bookings in advance are essential. It is a comfortable and a convenient way to travel to Magnetic Island. https://magneticislandferries.com.au/

How do I get to Villa Kembali once on Magnetic Island?

Best of Magnetic will help organise the best way for you to get to Villa Kembali. Their team can transfer you with a free service operating from their office until 5:30pm (The Best of Magnetic office is opposite the ferry terminal).
Please contact the team if you are arriving outside of this time for advice on how to access the property after hours.

What if I have any concerns during my stay?

Villa Kembali is managed by Best of Magnetic on our behalf, so if you have any concerns during your stay, you can call them on (07) 4778-5955

What about swimming?

Magnetic Island has two patrolled beaches in Alma Bay and Horseshoe Bay ( just 150 metres away from Villa Kembali) complete with stringer nets in the summer from Nov – May.

What about groceries?

You can shop at the well-stocked IGA located at 147 Sooning St Nelly Bay or we suggest that you get a home delivery for groceries from the Foodworks – https://magneticisland.myfoodworks.com.au/ Additionally there is a grocer which is walking distance from Villa Kembali in Horseshoe Bay which can supply all your day to day needs.

What is the bed layout/configuration?

The bed layout/configuration is flexible. The main bedroom has a 4 poster king-sized bed. The other 3 bedrooms have king-sized beds which can be split into king singles. Additionally Villa Kembali has 2 single fold out beds available.

A special note for visitors with young children staying at Villa Kembali

We are conscious of the safety of youngsters:

  • Please check with Best of Magnetic what equipment can be provided such as cots, potties etc.  Should you require additional items a baby equipment hire company is located on the island.
  • Have a night off! – we can provide you the contact details of a fully qualified babysitter. 
  • There is a pool fence but please play safe around the pool with active supervision, no diving and observe all cautionary signs.

 

What about games and books?

Various games, magazines and books are available for guests’ use.

Do you supply linen?

Yes, all bathroom and bed linen, and beach towels are supplied and included in your rates.

When do I have to pay the balance of my accommodation?

In most instances full payment is required 14 days prior to your arrival.

What time can I check into my accommodation?

Check in time is from 2.30pm.

What if I arrive earlier, can I check in early?

In many instances your accommodation has only been vacated the morning of the day you are arriving. In these cases, unfortunately we cannot provide an earlier check in.

Where can I store my luggage if I arrive earlier or depart later than the pre set check in and checkout times?

The SeaLink Breakwater ferry terminal (Townsville) has storage lockers. You may wish to leave your bags here and spend the day exploring Townsville.

The Nelly Bay (Magnetic Island) ferry terminal also has storage lockers, and you could spend the day exploring Magnetic Island.

Alternatively, Best of Magnetic may have some capacity to hold your bags for a short while within office hours.  Please call to confirm.

 

If I travel by passenger ferry, how do I get to my accommodation from the Nelly Bay Ferry Terminal?

We’ll be there to meet you at the Nelly Bay Ferry Terminal and transfer you to your accommodation.

Do I need to let you know when I am arriving?

Yes please. We don’t run a dedicated service to meet each ferry. Our transfers operate only on request. Once you know your travel plans please let us know what ferry you are likely to be on and we can book in your transfer. Because we understand delays in travel happen, we also ask that you phone the office (07 4778 5955) as you board the passenger ferry so that we know you made the ferry we expected you on.

What time is checkout?

Check out is strictly 10am. Often we have guests arriving to your accommodation on the day of your departure and require the time to clean and prepare the accommodation.

How do I get to the Ferry Terminal when I leave?

As long as it is between 8am and 10am we will collect you from your accommodation and transfer you to the ferry terminal. Please let us know 24 hours before your intended departure which ferry you’d like to depart the island on.

What if I need to leave earlier?

Taxis operate on Magnetic Island for those guests requiring early morning transfers. The number is the National Taxi number 131008. Alternatively, you will be staggered how simple and user friendly the local bus service.
